<div>This quick and delicious Mixed Berry Crisp is a terrific ending to any
meal. The warm berries coupled with the crisp slightly spicy topping
(use gingersnaps!) make for a wonderful fall dessert. You can use
whatever berries you like, I used a blueberry, blackberry, raspberry
mix. To add a little extra flavor I mixed a few tablespoons of orange
liqueur in with the berries before baking. My dad helped me out by
chopping the nuts and grinding up the gingersnaps!

Thanks Dad! Here is
how you can make your own Berry Crisp:<br />You can find the <a href="http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/individual-berry-crisps-recipe/index.html" target="_blank">whole recipe here</a>.
Start by placing 4 ramekins on a baking sheet and set aside. Preheat
oven to 350 degrees. To make the Crisp Topping stir together the flour,
sugar, chopped nuts and crushed gingersnaps

<p>
Just in time for Thanksgiving here is a perfectly yummy dessert that
will impress your friends and family. Try it and let me know what you
think of this little twist on a traditional apple pie.
</p><p>
Sienna and I were in a baking mood again, you know what that means,
right? Reading cook books and coming up with our own recipes. Sienna
loved helping me. As i made the pie dough I made sure to make extra
so she could play with some. She loved it and spent hours playing with
her special &quot;real&quot; dough. Too Cute. The pie is delicious and was pretty
easy to make. I was able to bring it over to my in laws who loved it as
well. <span style="font-size: 1.25em;"><strong><u>French Apple Pie:</u></strong></span><br />
<em>Crust</em><br />
1 cup flour<br />
1/4 cup cold butter<br />
1 tsp. salt<br />
2 to 3 tsp. ice water<br />
(or buy a pie crust, which ever works for you)
</p>
<p><em>Filling</em><br />
6c. sliced, peeled Granny Smith apples (about 6 apples)<br />
1/2 c. packed&#160; brown sugar<br />
1/2 c. sugar<br />
2 tbsp. lemon juice <br />
1 tbsp. cinnamon<br />
1/4 cup flour<br />
1 tsp. vanilla
</p>
<p><em>Crumble Topping</em><br />
1/3 c. butter<br />
1/4 c. brown sugar<br />
1/4 c. sugar<br />
2 tsp. cinnamon<br />
3/4 c. flour
</p><p>
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Make pie dough in food processor. Combine
flour, salt and butter until butter is the size of peas. Then slowly at
ice water, until the dough makes a ball. Refrigerate for at least 30
minutes.&#160; In large bowl, combine sugar and&#160; flour. Mix together with
apples, brown sugar, cinnamon,
and lemon juice. Roll out pie dough and place in pie pan. Trim edges
and crimp. Take left over dough and put back in food processor and add
one tablespoon of flour and mix. You should have small crumbs, sprinkle
crumbs on the bottom of pie crust, do NOT press them into the crust.
This will help keep your crust from getting soggy. I saw this on food
network and it really works.
</p><p>
layer in apple mixture into pie. I think you get a much better result
when you layer the apples in the pie, you get less air pockets and more
apples. It might take you an extra minute put it really does make a
difference. Make
French Crumb Topping by mixing 1/3 cup butter and sugars
together. Cut in 3/4 cup flour. Sprinkle topping over
apples in pie plate. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes or until topping is
golden and
apples are tender.
</p><p>
Let cool for at least an hour. Serve warm with ice cream or whip topping.<br />&#160;<br /></p> <p style="clear:both;">

<p>I know this is not very helpful in terms of my NaNoSweMo goal but I made soup, spaghetti sauce and bread today and did not knit very much. Niels was sick over the weekend and was not fever free for 24 hours yet this morning so he stayed home from school. Every time I walked into the living room to sit on the couch and knit while they played there was some chaos in my way or something that needed attention. I got several loads of wash done (and folded!) and a lot done in the kitchen, most notably, the bread. I don&#39;t bake bread very often but I was looking in an old spiral notebook that has recipes I wrote down in the mid-90s, I think. My mom needed the recipe for Swedish meatballs that she gave me and that&#39;s where that one is. I was looking through it and found a recipe for Honey Whole Wheat bread which I say is from the bread book in Bon Appetit series of cookbook. I think that must mean it came from my mother&#39;s house so I am going to have to look at it again when we visit them because the recipe seemed woefully lacking to me.</p>

<p></p><p>There&#39;s no mention of kneading, just of beating the dough in the mixer. That made some sense to me until I got to the second &quot;knead&quot; and the bread was so incredibly sticky. I decided to knead it by hand instead. I had also substituted bread flour for the all-purpose and I think my whole wheat is pastry flour and I also added vital wheat gluten, so I wasn&#39;t exactly following the recipe anyway. I kneaded in a bunch more flour until it felt smooth, let it rest, and then shaped a loaf put it in the loaf pan rather than just beating it in the mixer and &quot;turning it out&quot; into the loaf pan. It was a success. (It&#39;s shiny because I had just brushed it with butter when I took this photo.)</p>

<div class="ExternalClass" id="MsgContainer">
Maple, Walnuts and Oatmeal: sure sounds like the perfect fall
combination to me, especially when they are mixed together into a
delicious cookie! When I came across this recipe for Maple-Walnut
Oatmeal Cookies in the special Martha Stewart Halloween Magazine I
couldn&#39;t wait to give them a try with all the toasted walnuts, real
maple syrup and brown sugar. The twist in this oatmeal cookie is the
addition of shredded coconut. The recipe calls for unsweetened coconut
but all I had on hand was the sweetened variety. To off-set the
sweetness I toasted the coconut along with the walnuts. The toasted
coconut provided a great texture and nutty flavor element that wasn&#39;t
overly sweet. I also added a little sprinkle of sea salt on the top of
each cookie before baking. After mixing the dough together I let it
&quot;rest&quot; in the fridge for a good 30 minutes to let the flavors mingle
before baking. These cookies bake up moist and tender in the center and
slightly crispy around the edges with a terrific walnut/maple flavor.
The oatmeal and toasted coconut add nice texture and heft to the
cookie. Here is how you can make your own with a few change that I&#39;ve
made along the way. All the changes I made are in italics:

In a saucepan over medium heat, mix butter and maple syrup together until melted and combined. <em>Hint: spray measuring cup with Pam before filling with maple syrup. The syrup will slide easily out of the measuring cup!</em>
Remove from heat. In a small bowl, combine baking soda and boiling
water. Immediately stir into the butter mixture until combined. Stir
into the oat mixture and fold in the toasted walnuts.

<div>
<div>
<div>Dear uncle,<br />How are you?I am fine.I got my exams next week.Rushing up with my final assignments.I was stressed already before meeting you in home.I thought you would relax me a bit by knowing the real scenario going around and I found that you need a bit of updating. There are no time to see news everyday and I check the news on net if I have time. Here universities fail students to earn money here and I am over coming the stress already from Ballarat.</div>
<div>&#160;</div>
<div>Education is the most important stuff to finish than AFL,news, socializing, etc in Australia.I have been knowing the knowing about the western&#160; culture for the past 18 years as you explained about the party and owners/employees attending the function and their interaction during our last meeting.Australia has everything but no updation and maintenance.I did not find people to guide me for job even after I met you when I was in Coburg.There&#160;are people&#160;who are here for the last&#160;8 years in Melbourne. They are willing to give refer me.<br /></div>
<div>&#160;</div>
<div>Melbourne has totally changed what you think now.Reference and lies are the only solution for&#160;part time jobs in Australia. Most of the universities are not helpful enough to refer students in Australia.A lie is a lie and there no way in warming up the truth.I thought you would give a reference&#160; for a security course even though you were here for the last 33 years, this suprised me. Nowadays&#160;here they&#160;do not even bother about the dress code and presentation here.</div>
<div>&#160;</div>
<div>They needs references for jobs.So this is my situation,I got a good place where people can interact and get me a part time job.The present house I got the contact through gumtree website, the present house owner is a srilankan Tamil christian who knows one of my neighbours from Pollachi who were friends for the last 8 years during and after their education. So he got me in to his house after seeing my problem and not my dresscode here.<br /></div>
<div>That&#39;s all what I can update you at the moment.Footscray is known for its drugs and criminal activities. Not only cheap houses. Its a cheap place with risky life with dark people around with drugs.I knew about this place a year ago.I ended up in a worse location called Gordon Lodge. You must not have been going around the neighbourhood here.Footscray is not a good area as you informed dad in India when he called you.It took a year for me to get settled in Australia.I hope you understand my situation.</div>

<div>I have several adult friends that LOVE Rice Krispy Treats, you know the
ones with melted marshmallows and margarine mixed with Rice Krispy
Cereal? Well, I&#39;m not quite a fan of the Rice Krispy Treat, I think
they taste overly sweet with a plastic-like texture, so when I saw this
recipe on the <a href="http://smittenkitchen.com/2009/11/salted-brown-butter-crispy-treats/" target="_blank">SmittenKitchen blog</a>
for a more &quot;sophisticated crispy treat&quot; I had to try it out! The key
update on the old classic is in the browning of the butter before
adding the marshmallows. Brown butter takes on a rich almost nutty
flavor that is very distinctive and appealing. Add in a little coarse
salt and you&#39;ve taken lowly rice crispy treats and made Salted Brown
Butter Crispy Treats! I have to say, my Dad <em>hates</em> marshmallows and rice crispy treats....but he loved these! I bet you will too. Here is how you make them:

<br />You can find the <a href="http://smittenkitchen.com/2009/11/salted-brown-butter-crispy-treats/" target="_blank">entire recipe for Salted Brown Butter Crispy Treats here</a>.
Start by buttering an 8x8 inch pan or you can do like I did and line
the entire pan with aluminum foil and spray with Pam for super easy
cleanup. Set the pan aside.<br /><br />In a large pot melt a stick of
butter on medium-low heat stirring frequently making sure to scrape the
bottom of the pan. The butter will become foamy and then start to get
golden brown. Watch the butter carefully and stir constantly because it
goes from golden to burned quickly! When the butter looks nice and
golden brown remove from the heat and quickly stir in the 10 oz. of
marshmallows until they become all melted and smooth. Add in 6 cups of
Rice Krispies Cereal and 1/4 tsp. of sea salt or you can use coarse
kosher salt like I did. Mix well to coat and spoon the mixture into the
prepared pan.

Using a oiled spatula (or you can just spray some Pam on
your hands like i did) press the mixture evenly into the pan. Make sure
to press down very firmly as this will help ensure that your treats
don&#39;t fall apart when you try to cut them. Let the treats cool
completely in the pan.

When cool, remove from pan and cut into small
squares. To package mine for gift giving I simply cut some small
